Gagarine s’expose en grands formats
Accompagnement artistique avec les habitants
En 2017, j’ai organisé une série d’ateliers photos avec les habitants de la cité Gagarine et la Maison de quartier en vue de la démolition du bâtiment. Il était important de marquer l’événement de façon extraordinaire. Pour les habitants cela signifie la disparition d’un lieu qui a été le théâtre de leur vie, la fabrique de leurs souvenirs.
La photographie est à même de « faire trace » dans le temps, de fixer un vécu à la fois individuel et collectif et par là d’éliminer les tensions que provoquent les changements. Il est donc important de marquer l’événement, de permettre aux habitants de se l’approprier. L’idée est de faire un travail qui accompagne cette disparition, ce nouveau départ. Car la fin de Gagarine marque aussi le début d’une autre histoire.
Trois séries de photographies se répondent, réalisées en fonction de l’âge des participants : adultes, adolescents et enfants. Les images ainsi produites, issues d’un travail collaboratif et exigeant, ont été exposées en très grands formats sur la façade de l’immeuble courant 2018. Elles interpellent le passant. Elles permettent de transmettre l’histoire singulière de ce quartier. La couleur participe à cette évocation onirique de la mémoire.
In 2017, I organised a series of photo workshops with the inhabitants of the Gagarin housing estate and the Maison de quartier in preparation for the demolition of the building. It was important to mark the event in an extraordinary way. For the inhabitants, this means the disappearance of a place that was the theatre of their lives, the factory of their memories.
Photography is able to « make a trace » in time, to fix an experience that is both individual and collective, and thus to eliminate the tensions that changes provoke. It is therefore important to mark the event, to allow the inhabitants to appropriate it. The idea is to make a work that accompanies this disappearance, this new beginning. For the end of Gagarin also marks the beginning of another story.
Three series of photographs will be taken, according to the age of the participants: adults, adolescents and children. The images thus produced, the result of a collaborative and demanding work, were exhibited in very large formats on the façade of the building during 2018. They appeal to passers-by. They allow the singular history of this neighbourhood to be transmitted. The colour contributes to this dreamlike evocation of memory.

Ateliers photos avec les jeunes du quartier Pouchet, Paris 17
Pendant les vacances de la Toussaint 2019, un groupe de jeunes est parti avec l’appareil photo en bandoulière explorer les fresques du quartier Épinette-Pouchet, encadré par l’équipe éducative de l’AJAM et moi-même.
Chaque photographe s’est ensuite inspiré des fresques pour réaliser des portraits ou des paysages en noir et blanc. De l’ensemble des images sont nées des créations photographiques sous forme de diptyques qui raconte chacun une histoire.

During the autumn 2019 holidays, a group of young people set off with cameras slung over their shoulders to explore the frescoes in the Épinette-Pouchet neighbourhood, supervised by the AJAM educational team and myself.
Each photographer was then inspired by the frescoes to create portraits or landscapes in black and white. From all the images, photographic creations in the form of diptychs were created, each telling a story.
